Dr. Bronner's, a company that spans 16 decades and involves five generations of family soapmaking, was founded by Emanuel Bronner in 1948. Bronner was a third generation master soapmaker who immigrated to the United States from Germany to escape Nazi persecution.

In the 1940s, Emanuel Bronner started making handmade soap in his home to spread his message of peace and unity to the world. He believed that if people could learn to get along and respect each other's differences, the world (which he calls "Spaceship Earth") would be a much more peaceful place. The Serendipalm project is now the world’s largest fair trade organic palm oil project, working only with smallholder farmers and making a life changing difference to the community. They ensure that employees are paid a fair wage and have safe working conditions. The project also helps to protect the environment by preserving rainforest land and promoting sustainable agriculture.
