Last researched and updated: 10 July 2026
Bubble baths can make bath time more fun, especially for toddlers who need a little encouragement to get into the tub. But choosing one can quickly become confusing when every bottle seems to promise that it is gentle, natural, tear-free, plant-based, hypoallergenic or suitable for sensitive skin.
Hello Charlie first published its Safer Baby Bubble Bath Cheat Sheet as a detailed ebook comparing 33 baby and children's bubble baths. That original guide included ingredients, costs, comments and a list of products that Hello Charlie recommended at the time.
This updated version brings that research onto the page. We have preserved every product from the original Cheat Sheet, even where the product now appears historical, discontinued, renamed or difficult to verify. Why? Because those earlier reviews show the work Hello Charlie has been doing for years: comparing formulas, reading labels and helping families make more informed choices.
We have also added current and newer products that were not part of the original PDF, including fragrance-free and current-market options. This article is designed to be a living comparison rather than a frozen product list.
Important: A historical recommendation does not automatically mean a product is still a current Top Pick. Products can be discontinued, reformulated, renamed or no longer available. We preserve old research for transparency, but current recommendations are based on current availability and formula verification where possible.
There is no single best bubble bath for every baby or child.
For families specifically wanting a current fragrance-free dedicated baby bubble bath, Ecostore Fragrance Free Baby Bubble Bath is the strongest current standout in this update.
For families comfortable with fragrance and essential oils, Ecostore Baby Bubble Bath remains a current plant-based option worth considering.
The original Hello Charlie Top Picks are preserved later in this article, but they are no longer treated as current recommendations unless the exact current product and formula can be verified.
If your child has eczema-prone or highly reactive skin, bubble bath may not be necessary at all. The Royal Children's Hospital Melbourne lists bubble-bath liquid as a possible irritant for children with eczema and recommends fragrance-free, soap-free bath or shower products.
We do not force a Top 10 just because the original PDF had 10 historical Top Picks. A Current Pick must be something families can reasonably buy today, with enough current information to support a fresh recommendation.
Ecostore Fragrance Free Baby Bubble Bath — ★★★★☆
This is a current Australian-market product, available directly from Ecostore when checked. It is specifically fragrance-free and described by Ecostore as a plant-based formula with organic chamomile and New Zealand harakeke. Ecostore also states that it is dermatologically certified for sensitive skin and recognised by the Eczema Association Australasia as suitable for eczema-prone skin.
Why not five stars? The product page clearly confirms the product positioning, but the full dynamic INCI ingredient table did not load in our independent research capture. We prefer not to award five stars without reviewing the complete current formula.
Ecostore Baby Bubble Bath — ★★★★☆
This is a current Australian-market product and an original Hello Charlie Top Pick from the older Cheat Sheet. The current product is plant-based and contains naturally derived lavender scent, organic chamomile and New Zealand harakeke.
What to consider: It is not fragrance-free. For very reactive or eczema-prone skin, the fragrance-free version would generally be our preferred starting point.
When Hello Charlie first published this Cheat Sheet, we recommended 10 products based on the formulas and market availability at the time:
Those original recommendations are preserved below. However, we no longer treat all 10 as current Top Picks, because some exact products can no longer be confidently confirmed as current, unchanged and reasonably available.
You can still download the original 42-page Baby Bubble Bath Cheat Sheet PDF here.
For current products, we prioritise official Australian brand websites and manufacturer information. Where a complete current ingredient list is available, we review the full formula. Where we can verify only key ingredients or product claims, we say so clearly.
Our assessment considers:
This approach reflects the principles behind Hello Charlie's Ingredients Policy and our explanation of how we choose products, while recognising that editorial preferences are not official safety classifications.
★★★★★ — Strong Recommendation
Strongly aligns with Hello Charlie's preferred ingredient and transparency criteria.
★★★★☆ — Good Recommendation With Considerations
A good overall option, with one or more ingredients, formulation choices or transparency points worth considering.
★★★☆☆ — Suitable for Some Families
May still suit some families, but it aligns less closely with Hello Charlie's preferred ingredient framework.
About our recommendation ratings: Hello Charlie's star ratings are editorial recommendations based on our own ingredient preferences, product transparency, formulation choices and suitability for everyday family use. They are not medical advice, official safety classifications or regulatory assessments. A lower star rating does not mean a product is unsafe, and the best product for your family will always depend on individual needs, sensitivities and preferences.
No. Bubble bath is optional.
For newborns, Australia's Raising Children Network says 2–3 baths per week are enough to keep a newborn clean, and that frequent bathing can dry the skin. A mild baby cleanser can be used where needed.
If bubbles are not important to your family, a simple cleanser may be more practical. You can browse current options in Hello Charlie's Baby Soap & Body Wash collection.
Surfactants are the cleansing and foaming ingredients that create bubbles. Examples include decyl glucoside, coco-glucoside, cocamidopropyl betaine, sodium methyl cocoyl taurate and sulfate-based surfactants.
The original Hello Charlie PDF often treated one ingredient as enough to determine the verdict. Our current approach is more nuanced. We consider the whole formula, transparency, fragrance, product type and individual sensitivities.
The original PDF frequently downgraded products because they contained cocamidopropyl betaine. Today, we still treat it as a consideration, but not as an automatic reason to reject an entire product.
Fragrance remains one of the most meaningful considerations in this category. Some products use parfum, some use essential oils or naturally derived fragrance, and some are fragrance-free. For highly reactive skin, fragrance-free products may be a better starting point.
Lavender, eucalyptus, citrus, chamomile, aloe and other botanicals are common in baby bath products. They may appeal to families who prefer botanical formulas, but natural does not mean universally suitable for every child.
Water-based bubble baths need suitable preservation to help control microbial growth. We do not treat the word preservative as automatically negative. Instead, we consider the particular preservative system and the complete formula. For more background, see our Quick Guide to Preservatives in Organic Skincare.
Some bubble baths contain added colourants for appearance. Colour is not needed for cleansing or bubbles, so families seeking simpler formulas may prefer to avoid unnecessary dyes.

The old Top Picks remain visible, but are no longer presented as current recommendations unless the product is still current and sufficiently verified.
This is one of the most meaningful current additions, because it gives families a dedicated bubble bath without added fragrance.
The original PDF reviewed Serenity, Simplicity and Sweetness. Blissful Bubbles is treated as a newer product, not as an automatic continuation of those historical formulas.
The current Mustela formula remains remarkably close to the historical formula in the original PDF, which makes it a useful example of why product-by-product formula checking matters.
Even discontinued or unverified products remain in the article because they demonstrate that Hello Charlie was researching this category years ago.
There is no universal best option. In this update, Ecostore Fragrance Free Baby Bubble Bath is our preferred current starting point for families specifically wanting a fragrance-free dedicated bubble bath.
Because they are part of Hello Charlie's research history. Removing them would hide the work that was already done. Keeping them shows transparency and gives readers a fuller picture of how the category has changed.
Not automatically. They were recommended based on the products and formulas available at the time. Current recommendations require current product and formula verification.
Yes, where appropriate. If Hello Charlie currently stocks a product, it is relevant to include a clear product link or CTA. However, a product being stocked by Hello Charlie does not automatically improve its rating.
Many bubble baths are made for babies and children, but suitability depends on age, skin condition, fragrance, the full formula and individual sensitivity. Bubble bath is optional, especially for newborns.
For highly reactive or eczema-prone skin, fragrance-free can remove one possible source of irritation. However, fragrance-free does not guarantee that a product will suit every child.
It can be an irritant for some children with eczema. The Royal Children's Hospital Melbourne recommends fragrance-free, soap-free bath or shower products for children with eczema.
No. Natural formulas may still include essential oils, botanicals and fragrance components that do not suit every child. Likewise, a synthetic ingredient is not automatically unsafe simply because it is synthetic.
Not necessarily. It remains an ingredient to consider, but our current approach is to look at the complete formula rather than automatically rejecting a product because of one surfactant.
Sometimes, depending on the product directions, though it may not create many bubbles. If bubbles are not important, a simple cleanser may be more practical.
This updated Cheat Sheet is not just about finding a current bubble bath. It is also about preserving Hello Charlie's long-term research history.
The original PDF showed that Hello Charlie was already reviewing baby bubble bath ingredients years ago. Some of those products are now historical, but the work still matters. It shows transparency, continuity and authority.
For today's families, the most useful current standout is Ecostore Fragrance Free Baby Bubble Bath if you specifically want a dedicated fragrance-free bubble bath. For children with eczema-prone or highly reactive skin, however, the best option may be to skip bubble bath altogether and use a simple fragrance-free, soap-free cleanser instead.
Most importantly, always check the current product label. Formulas, names, stock status and availability can change. That is why Hello Charlie treats its Cheat Sheet library as living editorial content rather than fixed historical advice.
This Cheat Sheet is an independent editorial comparison designed to help families understand baby bubble baths, surfactants, fragrance, preservatives, formula changes, current market status and product history. It is not medical advice, diagnosis or a substitute for advice from a doctor, pharmacist, maternal and child health nurse, dermatologist or other qualified healthcare professional.
Hello Charlie has not independently laboratory-tested the products listed. Formulas, product names, packaging, availability, certification, stock status and ingredient lists can change. Always check the current package before purchase and use, particularly where known allergies or sensitivities are involved.
Historical formulas and recommendations referenced in this article come from the original Hello Charlie Baby Bubble Bath Cheat Sheet PDF. They should not automatically be assumed to represent current products or current formulas.
Where current formula verification is described as partial, the exact complete current ingredient list was not independently captured during this research pass. That distinction is deliberate.
Our star ratings reflect Hello Charlie's editorial ingredient preferences, product-transparency expectations, formulation choices and suitability for everyday family use. They are not official safety classifications or regulatory assessments.
For children with eczema, persistent irritation, broken skin or other ongoing skin concerns, seek individual healthcare advice rather than relying solely on a general product ranking.
