Best Natural Baby Wipes Cheat Sheet - Hello Charlie

Best Baby Wipes in Australia: 40+ Products Compared

, by Hello Charlie Blogs, 46 min reading time

Baby wipes are one of those products parents can use many times a day, every day, for years.

They clean bottoms, sticky hands, messy faces and all the mysterious spills that seem to appear whenever small children are nearby.

But not all baby wipes are the same.

The cleansing formula can range from two ingredients to more than a dozen. Some wipes contain added fragrance, essential oils or numerous botanical extracts. Some use plastic-free plant fibres, while others include synthetic fibres. Some are biodegradable, some are certified compostable, and others make environmental claims that can be difficult for parents to interpret.

That is why Hello Charlie originally created our Baby Wipes Cheat Sheet.

Our original March 2024 PDF contained 42 individually rated wet-wipe products, followed by separate information on dry wipes and reusable baby wipes. We have now brought that comparison onto this webpage, rechecked current products and formulations where possible, and updated our recommendation system.

This makes the guide easier to read, easier for search engines to understand and, most importantly, much easier to update when a brand reformulates, discontinues a product or launches something new.

Last comprehensively reviewed: July 2026.

Important formula note: Baby wipe formulations and materials can change. Where possible, we have checked current formulas against official Australian brand websites, official global brand sites or established Australian retailers. When we could not reliably confirm the exact current formula, we have marked the product as Not re-rated rather than guessing.

About the Hello Charlie Recommendation Rating

Hello Charlie is an independent Australian eco baby and parenting retailer. We are not a medical organisation, regulatory authority or official product-testing laboratory.

Our recommendation ratings are editorial opinions based on factors including:

  • Ingredient transparency
  • Whether added fragrance or essential oils are present
  • Formula simplicity
  • The wipe material itself
  • Whether plastic-free, biodegradable or compostability claims are clearly explained
  • Relevant certifications
  • Current formula verification
  • Alignment with Hello Charlie's own ingredient and sustainability preferences

A lower star rating does not mean a product is unsafe, illegal or unsuitable for every family.

Different babies have different skin. One baby might tolerate a botanical wipe beautifully, while another does better with a very simple water-based formula. Similarly, a mainstream fragrance-free wipe might suit one family's skin needs perfectly even if the wipe material itself does not align closely with Hello Charlie's environmental preferences.

★★★★★ — Strongly Recommended

Strongly aligns with Hello Charlie's preferred formulation, transparency and environmental criteria.

★★★★☆ — Recommended With Considerations

A good overall choice, with one or more ingredients, material choices, environmental factors or transparency points worth considering.

★★★☆☆ — Suitable for Some Families

May still suit many families perfectly well, but aligns less closely with Hello Charlie's preferred ingredient or sustainability framework.

Not re-rated means we could not reliably verify the exact current product or complete current formula. In these cases, we retain the historical recommendation for transparency but do not pretend that it necessarily represents the product currently on sale.

Our Quick Verdict: What Should You Look for in Baby Wipes?

For everyday nappy changes, we generally prefer wipes that combine:

  • A clear and complete ingredient list
  • No added fragrance, particularly for very sensitive or eczema-prone skin
  • A relatively simple cleansing formula
  • A plastic-free or clearly identified plant-based wipe material where possible
  • Transparent biodegradable or compostability claims
  • No exaggerated environmental or health claims

But the simplest formula is not automatically the best product for every baby, and the longest ingredient list is not automatically the worst.

Preservatives, for example, have an important job in keeping a water-rich packet of wipes from becoming contaminated by bacteria or mould. The more useful question is not simply whether a product contains a preservative, but which preservative system is used, why it is there and whether the full formula is transparently disclosed.

You can browse Hello Charlie's current Eco Baby Wipes collection, including Wotnot Wipes and Terra Wipes.

What Does Current Baby Skin Guidance Say?

Baby wipes are convenient, but no packaged wipe is essential for every nappy change.

The Royal Children's Hospital Melbourne says good-quality baby wipes or warm water and a cloth can be used for routine nappy care.

When a baby has an active nappy rash, the approach can change. The RCH's consumer guidance recommends lukewarm water and soft disposable towels or cotton wool, while Raising Children Network similarly recommends lukewarm water with cotton wool or a light cotton cloth.

So even our highest-rated wipe may not be the best choice for a particular baby at a particular moment. If skin is broken, very inflamed, weeping, infected or a rash is persistent, seek appropriate medical advice.

Baby Wipes Have Two Main Parts

1. The wipe material

The cloth itself matters.

Some wipes are made from plastic-based synthetic fibres. Others use bamboo, viscose, wood pulp, cotton or other plant-based materials.

For families trying to reduce plastic waste, we prefer brands that clearly disclose the wipe material and can substantiate claims such as plastic free, biodegradable or compostable.

2. The cleansing solution

The liquid formula usually contains water plus some combination of:

  • Preservatives to keep the wet product microbiologically stable
  • Surfactants to help lift dirt and residue
  • Humectants such as glycerin to help retain moisture
  • pH adjusters such as citric acid
  • Botanical extracts or oils
  • Fragrance in some products

Rather than assuming that every unfamiliar ingredient is harmful, we look at the purpose of the ingredient, the complete formulation, the product's transparency and how closely it matches our own preferences.

Fragrance-Free vs Scented Baby Wipes

For very sensitive or eczema-prone skin, fragrance-free is usually our preferred starting point.

Raising Children Network identifies fragranced baby wipes and wipes containing methylisothiazolinone as potential irritants for children with eczema.

That does not mean every scented wipe will cause a reaction. It means fragrance is not necessary for cleansing, and removing it can simplify the formula for families dealing with very sensitive skin.

It is also worth remembering that natural fragrance is still fragrance. Essential oils and botanical extracts can suit many families, but they are not automatically the best option for every reactive skin type.

Biodegradable Is Not the Same as Home Compostable

These terms should not be used interchangeably.

A wipe may be:

  • Plastic free
  • Plant based
  • Biodegradable
  • Industrially compostable
  • Home compostable

Those claims do not all mean the same thing.

We recommend composting a disposable wipe only when the manufacturer explicitly says the specific wipe is suitable for your intended composting system and your local rules allow it.

Never compost a wipe contaminated with faeces. Put it in the household waste instead.

Can You Flush Baby Wipes?

As a general rule: do not flush ordinary baby wipes.

Biodegradable does not mean flushable, and a product breaking down eventually in certain environmental conditions does not mean it will disperse quickly enough inside household plumbing or sewer infrastructure.

Australia now has a flushability standard, AS/NZS 5328:2022, but local water authorities can still give stricter advice. The safest approach is to put baby wipes in the bin and follow your local water authority's guidance.

Natracare's Safe to Flush Moist Tissues, included in our original comparison, are a different type of product and hold UK Fine to Flush certification. We discuss them separately below rather than presenting them as an ordinary baby wipe.

Our Strongest Current Matches

Based on the current formulas and product information we could verify, the products that most strongly match our current five-star framework include:

  • Wotnot Natural Baby Wipes
  • Bunjie Probiotic Eco Baby Wipes
  • Joonya Baby Wipes
  • Eco by Naty Unscented Baby Wipes
  • Luv Me Eco Bamboo Wet Wipes
  • Luv Me Eco Plant Wet Wipes
  • Kit & Kin Eco Baby Wipes
  • Rascals Premium Sensitive Wipes
  • WaterWipes Sensitive+ Newborn & Baby Wipes
  • GAIA 99.5% Pure Water Wipes
  • Terra Pure Water Baby Wipes

This is not a universal ranking of what every baby should use. It means these products currently align particularly well with Hello Charlie's combination of formula transparency, fragrance preferences, product design and, where applicable, environmental criteria.

Current and Reformulated Baby Wipes: Our Detailed Review

Wotnot Natural Baby Wipes

Formula checked: July 2026.

Original Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★★

Current Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★★

Best for: Families looking for a fragrance-free, plastic-free bamboo wipe with a relatively simple formula.

  • 100% plant-based bamboo cloth.
  • Plastic free.
  • Biodegradable and compostable according to the brand.
  • Clear current ingredient disclosure.

What to consider

  • As with any composting claim, follow current disposal guidance and never compost wipes contaminated with faeces.

Hello Charlie verdict: Wotnot remains one of the strongest matches for our current baby wipe framework: a transparent, fragrance-free formula combined with a clearly disclosed plant-based cloth.

Bunjie Probiotic Eco Baby Wipes

Current product status: Available.

Formula change identified: Yes. The current formula differs from the one recorded in our original 2024 PDF.

Original Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★★

Current Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★★

Current ingredients: Water, Lactobacillus, alpha-glucan oligosaccharide, oat kernel extract, yacon root juice, glycerin, decyl glucoside, maltodextrin, levulinic acid, sodium levulinate and potassium sorbate.

Best for: Families looking for a fragrance-free, plant-based wipe with a distinctive prebiotic and probiotic-focused formula.

What we like

  • Fragrance free.
  • Current formula is clearly disclosed.
  • Plant-based biodegradable wipe material according to the brand.
  • No need to rely on the outdated ingredient list from our original PDF.

What to consider

  • A longer or more unusual ingredient list does not automatically make a wipe worse; parents with very reactive skin should still judge it by their own baby's tolerance.

Hello Charlie verdict: A good example of why we now verify formulas rather than copying an old PDF indefinitely. The formulation has changed, but it continues to align strongly with our current preferences.

Joonya Baby Wipes

Current product status: Available.

Formula verification: Current formula confirmed by Joonya.

Original Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★★

Current Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★★

Current ingredients: Purified water, organic aloe vera leaf juice powder, chamomile extract, silver dihydrogen citrate, citric acid, decyl glucoside, organic jojoba seed oil and sodium citrate.

Best for: Families wanting a plastic-free wipe with a transparent formula and FSC-certified viscose material.

What we like

  • 99.7% water according to the brand.
  • No added synthetic fragrance.
  • Plastic-free and biodegradable wipe material.
  • Clear full ingredient disclosure.

What to consider

  • Contains botanical ingredients including chamomile, aloe and jojoba, which suit many families but are not necessary for every baby's skin.

Hello Charlie verdict: Joonya remains one of our strongest five-star matches because it combines a plastic-free cloth, good transparency and a fragrance-conscious formula.

Ecoriginals Purified Water Baby Wipes

Current product status: Available.

Original Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★★

Current Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★☆

Key current formula points: Purified New Zealand water, soybean-derived amino acid ingredients, organic aloe vera, vitamin E and chamomile essential oil.

Best for: Families who prioritise bamboo wipe material and natural botanical ingredients.

What we like

  • FSC-certified bamboo wipe material.
  • High water content.
  • No conventional synthetic perfume.

What to consider

  • Contains chamomile essential oil.
  • The soybean amino acid component is less transparent than we would ideally prefer.
  • For highly reactive or eczema-prone skin, we would generally start with a simpler fragrance-free formula.

Hello Charlie verdict: Still a good eco-focused wipe, but our current framework gives more weight to fragrance-free simplicity and full ingredient transparency, which moves it from five to four stars.

Noopii Natural Baby Wipes

Current product status: Current product listings found in New Zealand.

Formula verification: Current information was available through established New Zealand retailers rather than a dedicated official current ingredient page.

Original Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★★

Current Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★☆

Key ingredients: Water, natural soybean amino acid, New Zealand Manuka honey, aloe vera and vitamin E.

What we like

  • Bamboo fibre wipe material.
  • Relatively short formula.
  • No synthetic fragrance identified.

What to consider

  • The current formula was not verified directly from an official manufacturer product page.
  • Contains soy-derived and food-derived ingredients.

Hello Charlie verdict: A good naturally focused option, but we have reduced the recommendation slightly because current primary-source formula transparency is not as strong as we would like.

Eco by Naty Unscented Baby Wipes

Current product status: Available.

Original Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★★

Current Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★★

Key formula points: Fragrance free, 98.4% water and COSMOS Natural certified, with plant-based wipes certified for home and industrial composting according to the brand.

What we like

  • Fragrance free.
  • Plastic-free wipe material.
  • Strong third-party certification.
  • Clear compostability claims.

What to consider

  • The brand itself notes that compostability can change after use.
  • Never compost a wipe contaminated with faeces.

Hello Charlie verdict: One of the strongest all-round matches in the comparison when considering formula, fragrance, material transparency and certification together.

Ecoriginals Manuka Honey Baby Wipes

Current product status: Available.

Original Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★★

Current Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★☆

Key ingredients: Purified New Zealand water, organic Manuka honey, soybean amino acid ingredients, organic aloe vera, chamomile essential oil and vitamin E.

What we like

  • FSC-certified bamboo wipe material.
  • No conventional synthetic perfume.
  • Clear use of New Zealand-derived ingredients.

What to consider

  • Contains honey and soy-derived ingredients.
  • Contains chamomile essential oil.
  • A more botanical formula is not automatically the best choice for every highly reactive baby.

Hello Charlie verdict: A good eco wipe for families who actively prefer botanical ingredients, but not our first choice for every baby with highly reactive or eczema-prone skin.

JAK Organics Baby Cleansing Oil Wipes

Current product status: Available.

Formula verification: Current product formula confirmed from JAK Organics.

Original Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★★

Current Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★☆

Key ingredients: Purified water, organic coconut oil, organic propanediol, jojoba oil, calendula oil, aloe vera, sunflower oil and vitamin E.

Best for: Families looking for a richer, oil-based wipe rather than a minimal water wipe.

What we like

  • No synthetic fragrance listed.
  • Biodegradable bamboo wipe material according to the brand.
  • Transparent formula.
  • Rich emollient composition.

What to consider

  • Contains multiple botanical and food-derived oils.
  • A richer cleansing-oil wipe is not necessary for every baby.

Hello Charlie verdict: A thoughtful and distinctive product, but we now reserve five stars for formulas that are particularly broadly suited to our simplicity and sensitive-skin criteria.

Luv Me Eco Bamboo Wet Wipes

Current product status: Available.

Original Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★★

Current Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★★

Key ingredients: Purified water, vegetable glycerin, aloe vera leaf juice, citric acid, natural soybean amino acid and vitamin E.

What we like

  • Fragrance free.
  • 100% bamboo wipe material according to the brand.
  • Biodegradable.
  • Relatively short formula.

What to consider

  • The precise composition of the soybean amino acid ingredient is less transparent than we would ideally prefer.

Hello Charlie verdict: A strong five-star match for families who want a fragrance-free biodegradable bamboo wipe with a straightforward formula.

Natracare Safe to Flush Moist Tissues

Current product status: Available.

Original Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★★

Current Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★☆

Important clarification: We would no longer describe these simply as the only wipes that are truly flushable. They are paper-based moist tissues certified to the UK Fine to Flush standard, and they are not ordinary baby wipes.

What we like

  • Paper-based rather than conventional plastic wipe material.
  • Third-party UK flushability certification.
  • Good formula transparency.

What to consider

  • Contains sweet orange oil and naturally occurring fragrance components.
  • UK Fine to Flush certification is not the same thing as Australian AS/NZS 5328:2022 certification.
  • Australian water authorities may still advise putting all wipes in the bin.

Hello Charlie verdict: An interesting specialist product, but we would not present it as a conventional baby wipe or automatically recommend flushing it in every Australian household.

Luv Me Eco Plant Wet Wipes

Current product status: Available.

Original Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★★

Current Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★★

Key ingredients: Purified water, vegetable glycerin, aloe vera, citric acid, natural soybean amino acid and vitamin E.

Formula note: The cleansing solution is very similar to the Luv Me Eco Bamboo version; the main difference is the plant-fibre spunlace cloth.

What we like

  • Fragrance free.
  • Biodegradable plant-fibre wipe.
  • Relatively short formula.

What to consider

  • The soybean amino acid component could be more transparent.

Hello Charlie verdict: Another strong five-star option within our current framework.

Natracare Baby Wipes

Current product status: Available.

Original Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★★

Current Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★☆

Key current ingredients: Organic cotton wipe material with glycerin, apricot kernel oil, sweet almond oil, chamomile and orange peel oil, among other ingredients.

What we like

  • Organic cotton cloth.
  • Biodegradable wipe material.
  • Detailed full ingredient disclosure.

What to consider

  • Contains essential-oil-derived fragrance components.
  • Contains apricot and sweet almond oils.
  • Not our first choice for every highly reactive or eczema-prone baby.

Hello Charlie verdict: A high-quality eco-focused wipe with excellent material transparency, but the fragrance and botanical profile moves it to four stars under our current framework.

Tooshies Aloe & Chamomile Baby Wipes

Current product status: Available.

Original Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★★

Current Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★☆

Current ingredients: Water, glycerin, silver citrate, sodium citrate, citric acid, glyceryl caprylate, organic aloe vera, organic chamomile and rose geranium oil.

What we like

  • Plant-based biodegradable and compostable wipe according to the brand.
  • Full formula transparency.
  • Organic aloe and chamomile.

What to consider

  • Contains rose geranium oil.
  • For very reactive skin, we prefer fragrance-free formulas first.

Hello Charlie verdict: A good eco-focused wipe with strong material credentials, but the essential oil means it sits at four rather than five stars in our current framework.

CleanLIFE Baby Wipes

Current product status: Available.

Current ingredients: Water, polysorbate 20, vitamin E, jojoba, chamomile, glycerol, methylpropanediol, caprylyl glycol, benzoic acid and sodium edetate.

Original Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★☆

Current Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★☆

What we like

  • Australian made and owned.
  • 100% plant-based fibres according to the brand.
  • Plastic-free wipe material.
  • Complete current ingredient list available.

What to consider

  • Contains polysorbate 20, which sits outside Hello Charlie's traditional preferred ingredient framework.
  • We no longer describe the presence of one ingredient alone as evidence that a product is unsafe.

Hello Charlie verdict: A solid four-star option with strong material credentials and good transparency.

Curash Simply Water Baby Wipes

Current product status: Available.

Formula verification: New formula confirmed from the official Curash Australia website.

Formula change identified: Yes — significant.

Original Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★☆

Current Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★☆

Current ingredients: Purified water, sodium benzoate, hydroxyacetophenone, citric acid, coco-glucoside, aloe vera leaf juice and potassium sorbate.

What changed: The old formula reviewed in our original PDF contained polysorbate 20 and phenoxyethanol. The current formula does not.

What we like

  • 99% purified water.
  • Fragrance free.
  • No phenoxyethanol in the current formula.
  • Current formula is clearly disclosed.

What to consider

  • The brand does not currently provide the same type of clear plastic-free or plant-fibre claim as our five-star eco wipe leaders.

Hello Charlie verdict: The formula has improved substantially since our original review. We keep it at four stars because our rating considers wipe material and environmental transparency as well as the liquid formula.

Kit & Kin Eco Baby Wipes

Current product status: Available.

Formula change identified: Yes.

Original Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★☆

Current Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★★

Key current formula points: 99% water, fragrance free, with organic aloe vera and a plant-based, plastic-free wipe material according to the brand.

What we like

  • Fragrance free.
  • Plastic-free plant-based towel.
  • High water content.
  • Current product is a better match for our present framework than the formula reviewed historically.

Hello Charlie verdict: A clear upgrade to five stars based on the current product rather than carrying forward an old rating indefinitely.

Niki's Natural Baby Wipes

Current product status: Available.

Original Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★☆

Current Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★☆

Key formula points: The current product continues to highlight organic coconut oil and Manuka honey essence.

What we like

  • Current product remains active.
  • Natural-focused positioning.
  • No need to treat the product negatively simply because it includes a more botanical formula.

What to consider

  • Contains food-derived and botanical ingredients.
  • We would like stronger current full-INCI transparency before moving it to five stars.

Hello Charlie verdict: A good four-star choice for families who prefer botanical wipes, with the usual caveat that simpler formulas may suit some highly reactive babies better.

Rascals Premium Sensitive Wipes

Current product status: Available. The brand previously known as Rascal + Friends is now marketed as Rascals.

Original Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★☆

Current Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★★

Current formula and material points: Fragrance-free, phenoxyethanol-free and made with a plastic-free cloth according to the current brand information.

What we like

  • Fragrance free.
  • Plastic-free cloth.
  • Good current product transparency.
  • The current product is more strongly aligned with our framework than the historical version.

Hello Charlie verdict: A five-star upgrade based on the current product, not the old brand name or formula.

Tooshies Pure Water Baby Wipes

Current product status: Available.

Original Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★☆

Current Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★☆

Current ingredients: 99.4% water, sodium benzoate, hydroxyacetophenone, decyl glucoside and polyaminopropyl biguanide.

What we like

  • High water content.
  • No added fragrance.
  • Biodegradable and compostable wipe material according to the brand.
  • Full current formula available.

What to consider

  • Contains polyaminopropyl biguanide, which does not align closely with Hello Charlie's traditional preferred ingredient framework.

Hello Charlie verdict: Strong environmental credentials and a fragrance-free formula make this a good four-star choice, with one preservation-system consideration under our own framework.

WaterWipes Sensitive+ Newborn & Baby Wipes

Current product status: Available.

Formula verification: Current Australian product confirmed from the official WaterWipes Australia website.

Original Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★☆

Current Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★★

What we like

  • Extremely short formula.
  • Fragrance free.
  • Current brand information describes the wipes as plant-based and plastic free.
  • Good current Australian availability.

What to consider

  • Even a very short formula does not guarantee that every baby's skin will react identically.

Hello Charlie verdict: WaterWipes now earns five stars under our current framework because of its formula simplicity, fragrance-free positioning and current material improvements.

babyU Fragrance Free Baby Wipes

Current product status: Available.

Formula verification: Current product confirmed from the official babyU website, with a complete ingredient list available through Australian pharmacy retail.

Original Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★☆☆

Current Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★☆☆

Current ingredients: Water, glycerin, phenoxyethanol, sodium benzoate, polysorbate 20, benzoic acid, citric acid, dehydroacetic acid, sodium citrate, vitamin E and aloe vera.

What we like

  • Fragrance free.
  • Widely available.
  • Current formula can be identified.

What to consider

  • Contains phenoxyethanol and polysorbate 20, which sit outside Hello Charlie's traditional preferred framework.
  • We could not verify a strong current plastic-free or biodegradable material claim.

Hello Charlie verdict: A fragrance-free mainstream wipe that may suit many families, but it aligns less closely with our preferred formulation and environmental framework than our four- and five-star options.

CUB Biodegradable Fragrance Free Baby Wipes

Current product status: Available at Coles.

Original Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★☆☆

  • Fragrance free.
  • Current formula publicly available.
  • Better environmental positioning than the older CUB wipes reviewed in the original PDF.

What to consider

Original Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★☆☆

Current Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★☆☆

Formula note: Similar to the fragrance-free CUB formulation, but with added fragrance.

What we like

  • Biodegradable wipe material according to Coles.
  • Current ingredient information is available.

What to consider

  • Contains added fragrance.
  • Contains PEG-40 hydrogenated castor oil and propylene glycol.

Hello Charlie verdict: The biodegradable cloth is a positive improvement, but added fragrance keeps this at three stars under our current sensitive-skin-conscious framework.

Curash Sensitive Fragrance Free Baby Wipes

Current product status: Available.

Formula verification: Current formula confirmed from the official Curash Australia website.

Formula change identified: Yes — significant.

Original Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★☆☆

Current Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★☆

Current ingredients: Water, sodium benzoate, cocamidopropyl PG-dimonium chloride phosphate, citric acid, sodium citrate, glycerin, aloe vera leaf juice and potassium sorbate.

What changed: The current formula is free from added fragrance, phenoxyethanol and methylisothiazolinone.

What we like

  • Fragrance free.
  • No phenoxyethanol in the current formula.
  • Suitable for newborns according to Curash.
  • Current full formula is disclosed.

What to consider

  • The wipe material does not have the same clear plastic-free or plant-fibre credentials as our top five-star eco options.

Hello Charlie verdict: A major improvement and a good example of why products deserve to be reassessed rather than permanently carrying an old rating.

GAIA 99.5% Pure Water Wipes

Current product status: Available.

Important historical note: This is not the same formula as the old GAIA Bamboo Baby Wipes reviewed in our original PDF.

Formula verification: Current formula confirmed from the official GAIA Australia website.

Original historical recommendation for the old GAIA Bamboo Wipes: ★★★☆☆

Current recommendation for GAIA 99.5% Pure Water Wipes: ★★★★★

Current ingredients: 99.5% water, methylpropanediol, caprylyl glycol, benzoic acid and sodium edetate.

What we like

  • Fragrance free.
  • 99.5% Australian water.
  • 100% plastic-free plant-based cloth according to GAIA.
  • Biodegradable and industrially compostable according to the brand.
  • No phenoxyethanol.
  • Clear full ingredient disclosure.

What to consider

  • Industrially compostable does not automatically mean suitable for every home compost system.

Hello Charlie verdict: The new product is materially different from the historical GAIA wipes and should not inherit the old three-star rating. Based on the current verified formula and cloth, it earns five stars.

Huggies Gentle Cleanse Coconut Oil Baby Wipes

Current product status: Available in Australia.

Formula verification: Current product confirmed from the official Huggies Australia website.

Original Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★☆☆

Current Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★☆☆

Key formula points: The current formula includes water, cleansing and preservation ingredients, fragrance and coconut oil.

Wipe material: Huggies says its Gentle Cleanse wipes contain at least 70% wood-pulp fibres, with polymer fibres also forming part of the sheet construction.

What we like

  • Widely available.
  • Current product information is accessible.
  • High proportion of wood-pulp fibres compared with fully synthetic wipes.

What to consider

  • Contains added fragrance.
  • Not fully plastic free.
  • More complex formula than our highest-rated minimal water wipes.

Hello Charlie verdict: A mainstream product that may work perfectly well for many families, but it aligns less closely with our fragrance and plastic-reduction preferences.

Huggies Gentle Cleanse Cucumber & Aloe Baby Wipes

Original Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★☆☆

Current Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★☆☆

What we like

  • Widely available.
  • Current product information is accessible.
  • At least 70% wood-pulp fibres according to Huggies.

What to consider

  • Contains added fragrance.
  • Not fully plastic free.
  • A botanical-scented formula is not our first choice for very reactive skin.

Hello Charlie verdict: Suitable for families who enjoy the product and have no sensitivity issues, but lower alignment with our fragrance-free and plastic-reduction priorities keeps it at three stars.

Johnson's Baby Skincare Wipes Lightly Fragranced

Current product status: Available in Australia.

Formula verification: Current formula confirmed from the official Johnson's Australia website.

Original Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★☆☆

Current Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★☆☆

Key current ingredients: Water, phenoxyethanol, sodium benzoate, glycerin, carbomer, citric acid, coco-glucoside and additional cleansing and stabilising ingredients, plus fragrance.

What we like

  • Current Australian formula is publicly available.
  • Widely available.

What to consider

  • Contains added fragrance.
  • More complex formula than our top-rated minimalist wipes.
  • No strong plastic-free material claim identified.

Hello Charlie verdict: A mainstream wipe that may suit many babies, but it remains a three-star match for Hello Charlie because it does not align as closely with our fragrance and material preferences.

Little One's Fragrance Free Baby Wipes

Current product status: Available at Woolworths.

Current ingredients: Water, glycerin, polysorbate 20, phenoxyethanol, sodium benzoate, aloe vera extract, chamomile flower water, vitamin E, disodium cocoamphodiacetate and citric acid.

Original Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★☆☆

Current Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★☆☆

What we like

  • No added fragrance.
  • Affordable and widely available.
  • Full current formula disclosed by Woolworths.

What to consider

  • Contains phenoxyethanol and polysorbate 20, which sit outside Hello Charlie's traditional preferred framework.
  • No strong current plastic-free or biodegradable material claim identified.

Hello Charlie verdict: A practical fragrance-free supermarket wipe, but it aligns less closely with our ingredient and environmental preferences than our higher-rated options.

Little One's Scented Baby Wipes

Current product status: Available at Woolworths.

Original Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★☆☆

Current Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★☆☆

Formula note: The formula is similar to the fragrance-free Little One's wipes but includes added fragrance.

What we like

  • Affordable and widely available.
  • Ingredient list is publicly disclosed.

What to consider

  • Contains added fragrance.
  • Contains phenoxyethanol and polysorbate 20.
  • No strong plastic-free material claim identified.

Hello Charlie verdict: May still work perfectly well for many families, but added fragrance means it is not among our first recommendations for very sensitive skin.

New Addition: Terra Pure Water Baby Wipes

Terra Pure Water Baby Wipes

Original PDF status: Not included in our original 2024 comparison.

Current product status: Available.

Formula verification: Current product details confirmed from the official Terra website.

Current Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★★

Key formula and material points: 99.7% purified New Zealand water and 100% FSC-certified bamboo fibre, with the wider Terra range using ingredients including glycerin, soy extract and amino-acid-based preservation depending on the variant.

Best for: Families looking for a biodegradable bamboo wipe with high water content and no synthetic fragrance.

What we like

  • 100% FSC-certified bamboo fibre according to Terra.
  • Biodegradable.
  • No synthetic fragrance.
  • High purified-water content.
  • Terra explicitly says its wipes should not be flushed.

What to consider

  • Terra recommends industrial composting for best results.
  • Different Terra wipe variants contain different additional ingredients, so check the exact product rather than assuming all formulas are identical.

Hello Charlie verdict: Terra earns five stars as a new addition because its current combination of water-rich formulation, bamboo wipe material and clear environmental disclosure aligns strongly with Hello Charlie's current framework.

Historical, Replaced or Currently Unverified Products

We have not simply deleted these products.

Parents may still have old packs at home, encounter older stock or search for information about something they previously used. Historical information can still be useful, as long as we clearly distinguish it from a verified current formula.

Jackson Reece Water-Based Wipes

Original recommendation: ★★★★★

Current recommendation: Not re-rated.

Why: The current product was identified, but we did not independently verify an exact complete current formula from a sufficiently strong primary source during this review.

Historical formula reviewed: Water, betaine, levulinic acid, caprylyl/capryl glucoside, potassium sorbate, glycerin, sodium levulinate and sodium citrate.

JAK Organics Baby Aqua Wipes

Original recommendation: ★★★★★

Current recommendation: Not re-rated.

Why: We confirmed the current JAK Organics Cleansing Oil Wipes, but not a separate current official Aqua Wipes product page matching the exact historical product.

Historical formula reviewed: Purified water, organic soy amino acids, organic aloe vera, levulinate-based preservative ingredients and sodium citrate.

Mustela Organic Cotton Wipes With Water

Original recommendation: ★★★★★

Current recommendation: Not re-rated.

Why: The exact disposable organic cotton wipe from our historical PDF was not found in Mustela's current Australian range. Mustela now offers different reusable organic-cotton wipe products in some markets.

Cuddlies Bamboo Water Wipes

Original recommendation: ★★★★☆

Current recommendation: Not re-rated.

Why: The current product is marketed as a 99.7% purified-water bamboo wipe that is biodegradable and compostable, but we did not find a sufficiently complete current official INCI list to confidently reassess the formula.

Goat Kids Bamboo Wipes

Original recommendation: ★★★★☆

Current recommendation: Not re-rated.

Why: Current Goat baby wipe products exist, but we could not confirm that the exact historical Goat Kids Bamboo Wipes formula remains unchanged. A new or renamed product should be independently assessed rather than automatically inheriting the old rating.

Mommy Care Biodegradable Eco Baby Wipes

Original recommendation: ★★★★☆

Current recommendation: Not re-rated.

Why: The product remains available, but we did not independently verify a complete current formula from a sufficiently strong primary source.

Thankyou Baby Wipes

Current product status: Available.

Original recommendation: ★★★★☆

Current recommendation: Not re-rated.

Why: Thankyou currently confirms that its baby wipes are fragrance-free, but we could not verify a complete current INCI list strongly enough to assign a new formula-based rating.

This does not mean the product has become worse. It simply means we prefer to say Not re-rated rather than fill gaps with assumptions.

Aldi Mamia Premium Fragrance Free Baby Wipes

Current product status: Available.

Original recommendation: ★★★☆☆

Current recommendation: Not re-rated.

Why: Aldi confirms that the current wipes are fragrance free, alcohol free and contain aloe, chamomile and vitamin E, but a complete current ingredient list was not published on the official product page we reviewed.

Aldi Mamia Water Wipes

Current product status: Available.

Original recommendation: ★★★☆☆

Current recommendation: Not re-rated.

Why: Aldi currently describes these as 99% water, hypoallergenic and alcohol free, but we did not find a complete current official ingredient list. We will not assume that the old PDF formula is still current.

Anko Baby Wipes

Original recommendation: ★★★☆☆

Current recommendation: Not re-rated.

Why: We could not reliably verify the exact current Anko product and a full current formula matching the version in the original PDF.

Historical formula reviewed: Water, aloe, glycerin, propylene glycol, ethylhexylglycerin, benzalkonium chloride, vitamin E, citric acid, polysorbate 20, disodium EDTA and phenoxyethanol, among other listed ingredients.

Curash Moisturising Baby Wipes With Vitamin E

Original recommendation: ★★★☆☆

Current recommendation: Not re-rated.

Why: The exact historical product was not found in Curash's current Australian wipe range. Curash now focuses on its new-formula Simply Water and Sensitive Fragrance Free wipes.

Curash Aloe Vera & Chamomile Baby Wipes

Original recommendation: ★★★☆☆

Current recommendation: Not re-rated.

Why: The exact historical product is no longer part of the current range we reviewed. We do not transfer an old rating onto a different current Curash product.

The Biggest Formula and Product Changes We Found

GAIA: ★★★☆☆ historical product to ★★★★★ current replacement

The old GAIA Bamboo Baby Wipes reviewed in our original PDF contained a materially different formulation.

The current GAIA 99.5% Pure Water Wipes contain only water, methylpropanediol, caprylyl glycol, benzoic acid and sodium edetate, and use a plastic-free plant-based cloth according to GAIA.

We therefore rate the new product independently rather than carrying across the old three-star recommendation.

Curash Simply Water: major reformulation

The original formula reviewed by Hello Charlie contained polysorbate 20 and phenoxyethanol.

The current formula does not. It now contains purified water, sodium benzoate, hydroxyacetophenone, citric acid, coco-glucoside, aloe vera and potassium sorbate.

This is exactly the kind of change a living comparison can capture.

Curash Sensitive Fragrance Free: ★★★☆☆ to ★★★★☆

The new formula is fragrance free and no longer contains phenoxyethanol or methylisothiazolinone. We therefore upgraded it from the historical three-star recommendation to four stars.

Kit & Kin: ★★★★☆ to ★★★★★

The current product now strongly matches our framework with a fragrance-free formula, high water content and plastic-free plant-based wipe material.

Rascals: ★★★★☆ to ★★★★★

Alongside the brand's name change from Rascal + Friends to Rascals, the current sensitive wipe is fragrance free, phenoxyethanol free and made with a plastic-free cloth according to current brand information.

WaterWipes: ★★★★☆ to ★★★★★

The current Australian product has a two-ingredient formulation based on 99.9% water and a drop of fruit extract, while current company information describes the wipe itself as plant-based and plastic free.

What About Phenoxyethanol?

Our original PDF took a much stronger position against phenoxyethanol.

In this updated article, we take a more measured approach.

Phenoxyethanol still sits outside Hello Charlie's traditional preferred framework, so its presence can affect our editorial recommendation. But we do not automatically describe a baby wipe as dangerous or toxic simply because phenoxyethanol appears in its ingredient list.

That is the difference between:

"This product contains an ingredient that does not align with our own preferences"

and:

"This product is unsafe."

Those are not the same claim, and Hello Charlie is not a regulatory authority.

What About Polysorbates, PEGs, Propylene Glycol and Other Ingredients?

The same principle applies.

Our traditional preferred ingredient framework may avoid or deprioritise some ingredients, including certain PEG compounds, polysorbates and propylene glycol.

But we do not use the presence of one ingredient as automatic evidence that the entire finished product is unsafe.

Our rating looks at the bigger picture:

  • The complete formula
  • Why the ingredient is used
  • Fragrance
  • Wipe material
  • Transparency
  • Environmental claims
  • Current product verification

This is why some mainstream fragrance-free products still receive three or four stars rather than being described as products parents should avoid.

Dry Baby Wipes: The Simplest Formula of All

Dry baby wipes are simply dry cloths that parents wet with water when needed.

The advantages are obvious:

  • No cleansing solution sitting in the packet
  • No wet-product preservation system required
  • You control what liquid is added
  • Useful for babies with very reactive skin

But the material still matters. Check whether the dry wipe is made from cotton, bamboo, viscose or synthetic fibres.

Dry wipes also need clean water and practical storage, so they may be less convenient for some families when away from home.

Reusable Baby Wipes

Reusable wipes can significantly reduce the number of single-use wipes a family buys.

At home, many families simply use:

  • Soft cotton cloths
  • Organic cotton wipes
  • Bamboo cloths
  • A clean light washcloth with water

Reusable wipes do not need to be an all-or-nothing choice.

You might use reusable wipes for wet nappies at home and disposable wipes for poo, outings, travel or childcare.

That flexible approach is often more realistic than trying to achieve perfection.

How to Choose the Best Baby Wipes for Your Family

For newborns or very sensitive skin

Consider a short, fragrance-free formula and remember that water with cotton wool or a soft cloth is also an option.

For eczema-prone skin

Fragrance-free is our preferred starting point. Avoid assuming that a highly botanical or essential-oil-rich formula is automatically better simply because it is described as natural.

For families reducing plastic

Look beyond the cleansing liquid and check the actual wipe material. Good options may use bamboo, cotton, viscose, wood pulp or other clearly identified plant fibres.

For families prioritising compostability

Look for a specific, substantiated compostability claim and understand whether it applies to industrial composting, home composting or both.

Never compost wipes contaminated with faeces.

For budget-focused families

A supermarket wipe may be the most realistic option. Choosing a fragrance-free product can be a sensible starting point, even when the wipe does not meet every element of Hello Charlie's environmental framework.

Why We No Longer Use Green, Orange and Red Lights

Our original Cheat Sheet used Green Light, Orange Light and Red Light categories.

We have replaced those with five-, four- and three-star recommendations because ingredient and product suitability is more nuanced than a traffic light can suggest.

A three-star wipe is not automatically bad.

A five-star wipe is not guaranteed to suit every baby.

The right product depends on:

  • Your baby's individual skin
  • Any known sensitivities
  • Your family's environmental priorities
  • Your budget
  • Product availability
  • How and where you use wipes

Our role is to show you what we found, explain our reasoning and update our view when products change.

How We Will Keep This Baby Wipes Cheat Sheet Updated

This webpage is designed as a living product comparison.

For future updates, we will aim to record:

  • Formula check date
  • Current full or key ingredients
  • Wipe material
  • Fragrance status
  • Plastic-free status where verified
  • Biodegradability or compostability claims and their basis
  • Original Hello Charlie recommendation
  • Current Hello Charlie recommendation
  • Formula change summary
  • What we like
  • What to consider

When a new wipe enters the Australian market, we can add it directly. When a brand reformulates, we can update one product section rather than recreating an entire PDF.
