Best Baby Moisturiser Cheat Sheet - Hello Charlie

Best Baby Moisturisers in Australia: 33 Baby Lotions Compared

, by Hello Charlie Blogs, 32 min reading time

Choosing a baby moisturiser should be simple. But walk into a supermarket, pharmacy or baby store and you will find dozens of products described as natural, organic, gentle, hypoallergenic, sensitive, dermatologist tested or suitable for eczema-prone skin.

The problem is that those words do not always tell you very much about what is actually inside the bottle — or whether a particular product is the right choice for your baby.

That is why Hello Charlie originally created our Baby Moisturiser Cheat Sheet.

We reviewed 33 popular baby lotions and looked beyond the front label at their ingredient lists, fragrance, preservatives, botanicals, certifications and transparency.

Originally, this information was only available inside a downloadable PDF. We have now brought the full comparison onto this page so parents can read it without downloading a file — and, importantly, so we can update individual products whenever a formula changes, a product is discontinued or a new moisturiser enters the Australian market.

Last comprehensively reviewed: July 2026.

Important formula note: Product formulations change. Where possible, we have checked current formulas against official Australian brand websites or other reliable current sources. Where a current formula could not be independently confirmed, we have clearly marked the product as historical or not re-rated rather than guessing.

About the Hello Charlie Recommendation Rating

Hello Charlie is an independent Australian eco baby and parenting retailer. We are not a medical organisation, regulatory authority or official product-testing laboratory.

Our recommendation ratings are editorial opinions based on factors including:

  • Ingredient transparency
  • Whether the formula contains added fragrance or essential oils
  • Ingredients that do or do not align with Hello Charlie's own product preferences
  • Formula simplicity
  • Relevant certifications
  • Current product and formula verification
  • Suitability for everyday family use

A lower star rating does not mean a product is unsafe, illegal or a bad product.

Different babies have different skin. A product that suits one child beautifully might not suit another. A highly botanical organic lotion might appeal strongly to one family but irritate another baby's very reactive skin. Conversely, a fragrance-free pharmacy moisturiser containing mineral oil or dimethicone may not align closely with Hello Charlie's traditional natural ingredient preferences but may still be a very practical choice for dry or eczema-prone skin.

★★★★★ — Strongly Recommended

Strongly aligns with Hello Charlie's preferred ingredient, transparency and formulation criteria.

★★★★☆ — Recommended With Considerations

A good overall option, with one or more ingredients, formulation choices or transparency points worth considering.

★★★☆☆ — Suitable for Some Families

May still be a perfectly suitable choice depending on individual needs, but aligns less closely with Hello Charlie's preferred ingredient framework.

Not re-rated means we could not reliably confirm the exact current product or formula. In those cases, we retain the historical recommendation for transparency but do not pretend it represents the current product.

Our Quick Verdict: What Matters Most in a Baby Moisturiser?

For ordinary dry baby skin, simpler is often better.

The Royal Children's Hospital Melbourne recommends applying a thick, non-fragranced moisturiser at the first sign of dryness and notes that thicker creams can be more effective than lotions.

For sensitive baby skin, the hospital also advises avoiding moisturisers containing fragrance, botanicals and food ingredients, as these may disrupt the developing skin barrier.

Pregnancy, Birth and Baby similarly recommends simple moisturisers and advises avoiding alcohol, fragrance and essential oils on baby skin.

Our practical starting points are:

  • Prefer fragrance-free products for very sensitive or eczema-prone skin.
  • Look for a clear, complete ingredient list.
  • Do not assume natural or organic automatically means better for every baby.
  • Choose a texture appropriate to your baby's skin needs.
  • Be cautious with vague green, natural or hypoallergenic claims that are not clearly explained.
  • Patch test new products where appropriate.
  • Check the actual packaging because formulations change.

You can browse Hello Charlie's current Natural Baby Moisturisers, Lotions, Oils & Powder collection for products we currently stock.

Natural Does Not Automatically Mean Better

Words such as natural, organic, pure, eco-friendly and hypoallergenic can sound reassuring, but they should never replace checking the full product information.

In Australia, the Australian Industrial Chemicals Introduction Scheme explains that almost all ingredients in skincare and personal care products are regulated as industrial chemicals for those uses. This includes many ingredients described as natural or organic, such as oils, extracts and plant essences.

That is why we avoid describing products as "chemical-free". Everything is made of chemicals — including water, plant oils and natural extracts.

The more useful questions are:

  • What exactly is in the formula?
  • Why is each ingredient there?
  • Does the product contain fragrance or essential oils?
  • Is the complete ingredient list disclosed?
  • Has the formula changed?
  • Are organic, environmental or certification claims clearly supported?

The ACCC defines greenwashing as making a product or service appear better or less harmful for the environment than it really is through claims or omitted information. We believe transparency is always more useful than vague marketing language.

Current and Reformulated Baby Moisturisers: Our Detailed Review

Divine Baby Soothing Baby Moisturiser

Current product status: Available.

Formula verification: Current product confirmed from the official Divine Company website.

Original Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★★

Current Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★☆

Why the current rating is four stars: This product still aligns closely with Hello Charlie's preference for naturally derived and organic ingredients. However, it contains essential oils including lavender and chamomile. That may suit many families perfectly well, but added essential oils are not our first choice for every newborn, highly sensitive or eczema-prone baby.

What we like:

  • Current official product confirmed.
  • High certified organic ingredient content.
  • No synthetic fragrance listed by the brand.
  • Transparent natural ingredient positioning.

What to consider:

  • Contains lavender and chamomile essential oils.
  • A highly botanical formula may not suit every reactive skin type.

Hello Charlie verdict: A lovely organic option for families who prefer plant-based skincare and whose baby's skin tolerates essential oils. For highly reactive or eczema-prone skin, we would still consider starting with a simpler fragrance-free moisturiser.

Four Cow Farm Baby Lotion

Current product status: Current product found.

Formula verification: Current product information is available through Four Cow Farm sources and established retailers, although we could not independently confirm a separate current Australian-market ingredient list.

Original Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★★

Current Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★☆

Key ingredients: Water, sweet almond oil, glycerin, apricot kernel oil, cetearyl olivate, sorbitan olivate, cetearyl alcohol, rosemary extract and potassium sorbate.

What we like:

  • Relatively short ingredient list.
  • Rich in plant oils.
  • No conventional synthetic fragrance identified in the historical formula.

What to consider:

  • Contains sweet almond and apricot kernel oils.
  • The ingredient "parfum" has historically been described by the brand as a plant-derived preservative, which may confuse consumers reading the INCI.
  • Australian-market formulation should be checked directly on packaging.

Hello Charlie verdict: A simple plant-oil-based moisturiser that will appeal to natural skincare families, but we would check the current pack carefully where allergies or highly reactive skin are a concern.

Jack N' Jill Natural Baby Lotion

Current product status: Current Australian retail listings found.

Formula verification: Current official manufacturer INCI was not independently located, so packaging remains the final source of truth.

Original Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★★

Current Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★★

Historical ingredient list: Water, cetearyl alcohol, caprylic triglyceride, glyceryl stearate, glycerin, sunflower seed oil, sodium citrate, grapeseed oil, gluconolactone, glyceryl caprylate, sodium stearoyl glutamate, panthenol, allantoin, xanthan gum, sodium benzoate, calcium gluconate and citric acid.

What we like:

  • No added fragrance in the formula reviewed.
  • Relatively straightforward ingredient list.
  • Includes glycerin, panthenol and allantoin.

What to consider:

  • The current formula should still be checked on packaging because the latest complete manufacturer INCI was not independently confirmed.

Hello Charlie verdict: Based on the formula available to us, this remains one of the strongest matches for Hello Charlie's preferred approach: simple, fragrance-free and transparent.

Sanctum Baby Moisturiser

Current product status: Available.

Formula verification: Current formula confirmed from the official Sanctum Australia website.

Original Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★★

Current Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★☆

Formula change identified: Yes.

Key current ingredients: Aloe vera leaf juice, chamomile flower extract, shea butter, glycerin, jojoba oil, apricot kernel oil, lavender oil, lemon peel oil, marjoram flower oil and naturally occurring fragrance allergens including citral, limonene and linalool.

What we like:

  • Current full ingredient disclosure.
  • High certified organic content.
  • Plant oils and emollients including shea butter and jojoba.

What to consider:

  • Contains several essential oils.
  • Contains naturally occurring fragrance allergens.
  • Organic certification does not automatically mean a formula will suit every sensitive baby.

Hello Charlie verdict: A strong organic moisturiser for families who value certified ingredients, but the essential-oil content means we would not automatically make it our first recommendation for highly reactive or eczema-prone newborn skin.

Weleda Calendula Body Lotion

Current product status: Available.

Formula verification: Current product confirmed from Weleda Australia.

Original Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★★

Current Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★☆

Key formula points: Sesame seed oil, sweet almond oil, glycerin, calendula, chamomile and fragrance derived from essential oils.

What we like:

  • Long-established baby skincare formula.
  • Plant oils including sesame and almond.
  • Transparent current product information.

What to consider:

  • Contains fragrance.
  • Contains essential-oil fragrance components such as limonene, linalool, geraniol and citral.
  • Contains sesame and almond oils.

Hello Charlie verdict: A beautifully formulated natural lotion that many families love, but we now give extra weight to fragrance-free options when evaluating skincare for highly sensitive or eczema-prone babies.

Gilly Goat Soft Baby Moisturising Lotion

Current product status: Limited current retail availability found.

Formula verification: Current retailer ingredient list available, but no current official manufacturer product page was independently confirmed.

Original Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★☆

Current Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★☆

Key ingredients: Aloe vera, sweet almond oil, goat milk, shea butter, benzyl alcohol, lavender oil, vitamin E, rosemary oil and chamomile oil.

What we like:

  • Detailed ingredient disclosure.
  • Contains several emollient plant ingredients.
  • No synthetic fragrance is listed.

What to consider:

  • Contains goat milk.
  • Contains almond oil.
  • Contains several essential oils.
  • Current retail availability appears limited.

Hello Charlie verdict: Still a good naturally focused formula, but its food-derived ingredients and essential oils may not suit every sensitive baby.

Itchy Baby Co. Eczema Moisturiser

Current product status: Available.

Formula verification: Current ingredients confirmed from the official Itchy Baby Co. website.

Original Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★☆

Current Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★☆

Current active ingredients: Colloidal oatmeal 100mg/g and coconut oil 150mg/g.

Other current ingredients: Shea butter, white beeswax, carnauba wax, d-alpha-tocopheryl acetate, medium-chain triglycerides, benzyl alcohol and sodium dehydroacetate.

What we like:

  • Fragrance free.
  • Waterless, highly occlusive texture.
  • Current complete formula disclosed.
  • Clearly positioned for a specific skin need rather than generic marketing.

What to consider:

  • Contains coconut oil and other food-derived ingredients.
  • Contains benzyl alcohol as part of its preservation system.
  • Eczema is a medical skin condition; a star rating should not replace professional treatment advice.

Hello Charlie verdict: A targeted, fragrance-free product with a clear use case. We deliberately keep this at four stars rather than judging it only against a generic cosmetic ingredient checklist because eczema-focused products need context.

Lovekins Baby Face + Body Moisturiser

Current product status: The original Hydrating Baby Body Moisturiser appears to have been replaced or substantially reformulated as Baby Face + Body Moisturiser.

Formula verification: Current formula confirmed from the official Lovekins website.

Original Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★☆

Current Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★☆

Key current ingredients: Glycerin, shea butter, Lactobacillus Ferment Lysate, sodium hyaluronate, Tasmanian pepper extract, carrot seed oil, avocado oil, phenoxyethanol and ethylhexylglycerin.

What we like:

  • No synthetic fragrance listed.
  • Excellent current ingredient transparency.
  • Includes glycerin, hyaluronic acid, shea butter and avocado oil.

What to consider:

  • This is not the same formula as the product reviewed in the original PDF.
  • Contains phenoxyethanol, an ingredient outside Hello Charlie's traditional preferred framework.

Hello Charlie verdict: A modern, transparent and fragrance-free formula. We do not carry the old rating across automatically because this is effectively a new product formulation.

Milk & Co Baby Moisturiser

Current product status: Current Australian retailer formula found.

Formula change identified: Yes.

Original Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★☆

Current Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★☆☆

Key current ingredients: Caprylic/capric triglyceride, glyceryl stearate, glycerin, shea butter, cocoa butter, coconut oil, phenoxyethanol, parfum and disodium EDTA.

What we like:

  • Contains several useful emollient ingredients.
  • Current formula is available through Australian retail channels.

What to consider:

  • Contains added parfum.
  • Contains phenoxyethanol.
  • Contains disodium EDTA.
  • The current formula is materially different from the one reviewed in the original Hello Charlie PDF.

Hello Charlie verdict: This may still suit many families, but the current formula aligns less closely with Hello Charlie's preferred fragrance-conscious ingredient approach than the original four-star version.

MooGoo Baby Soothing Moisturiser Nut Oil Free

Current product status: Available.

Formula verification: Current full formula confirmed from the official MooGoo Australia website.

Original Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★☆

Current Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★☆

Key current ingredients: Olive oil, MSM, aloe vera, evening primrose oil, olive squalane, honey, allantoin, apple cider vinegar, piroctone olamine, polysorbate 60 and Milk & Honey fragrance.

What we like:

  • Excellent full ingredient transparency.
  • Nut-oil-free positioning.
  • Contains evening primrose oil, squalane, aloe and allantoin.
  • Australian brand with a current official formula available.

What to consider:

  • Contains added fragrance.
  • Contains honey.
  • Contains polysorbate 60, which has historically sat outside Hello Charlie's preferred ingredient framework.

Hello Charlie verdict: A thoughtfully formulated and highly transparent baby moisturiser. The added fragrance keeps it at four stars in our current framework.

Aromababy Natural Baby Lotion

Current product status: Available.

Formula change identified: Yes — significant.

Original Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★☆☆

Current Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★★

Why the rating changed: The historical formula reviewed by Hello Charlie contained sodium hydroxymethylglycinate, a formaldehyde-releasing preservative. The current formula we identified no longer lists this ingredient.

Key current ingredients: Water, sunflower oil, cetearyl olivate, sorbitan olivate, cetearyl alcohol, glycerin, evening primrose oil, cocoa butter, avocado oil, jojoba oil, mango butter, rosehip oil, vitamin E, potassium cetyl phosphate, phenethyl alcohol and caprylyl glycol.

What we like:

  • Major improvement compared with the original formula reviewed.
  • No added fragrance identified.
  • Rich in plant oils and emollients.
  • The old formaldehyde-releasing preservative is no longer listed in the current formula found.

What to consider:

  • Highly botanical formulas still do not suit every reactive skin type.
  • Always verify against current packaging because formulations can change again.

Hello Charlie verdict: This is exactly why living web comparisons are better than static PDFs. Based on the current formula found, we believe Aromababy deserves a significant upgrade from its original three-star recommendation.

Aveeno Baby Soothing Relief Moisture Cream

Current product status: Available.

Formula verification: Current Australian product confirmed from the official Aveeno Australia website.

Formula change identified: Yes.

Original Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★☆☆

Current Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★☆

Key current formula points: Fragrance-free, with glycerin, petrolatum, mineral oil, cetyl alcohol, dimethicone and colloidal oatmeal.

What we like:

  • Fragrance free.
  • Designed for dry and sensitive baby skin.
  • Contains colloidal oatmeal.
  • Current Australian formula confirmed.

What to consider:

  • Contains petrolatum, mineral oil and dimethicone, which sit outside Hello Charlie's traditional natural ingredient preferences.

Hello Charlie verdict: We would not describe this product as unsafe merely because it contains petrolatum, mineral oil or dimethicone. It is fragrance free and may be a very practical choice for dry or sensitive skin. Our four-star rating reflects a balance between Hello Charlie's own ingredient preferences and the real-world needs of different families.

Cetaphil Baby Daily Lotion With Shea Butter

Current product status: Available.

Formula verification: Current complete Australian formula confirmed from the official Cetaphil Australia website.

Original Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★☆☆

Current Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★☆☆

Key current ingredients: Sunflower oil, sorbitol, glycerin, panthenol, shea butter, dimethicone, propylene glycol, parfum and tocopherol.

What we like:

  • Excellent current ingredient disclosure.
  • Contains glycerin, panthenol, shea butter and sunflower oil.
  • Current Australian product confirmed.

What to consider:

  • Contains added parfum.
  • Contains dimethicone and propylene glycol, which do not closely align with Hello Charlie's traditional ingredient preferences.

Hello Charlie verdict: A mainstream baby lotion with useful moisturising ingredients, but it remains a three-star fit for Hello Charlie because of fragrance and lower alignment with our preferred framework.

Childs Farm Baby Moisturiser

Current product status: Available internationally.

Formula verification: Current official UK formula confirmed. Australian packaging should be checked because market formulas can differ.

Original Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★☆☆

Current Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★☆☆

Key current ingredients: Caprylic/capric triglyceride, glycerin, shea butter, cocoa butter, benzyl alcohol, cucumber extract, parfum, aloe vera, sunflower oil and rosemary extract.

What we like:

  • Full current ingredient disclosure.
  • Contains glycerin, shea butter, cocoa butter and aloe.

What to consider:

  • Contains added fragrance.
  • Contains benzyl alcohol.
  • The current Australian-market INCI should be checked directly on the pack.

Hello Charlie verdict: A popular family moisturiser with good emollient ingredients, but added fragrance keeps it at three stars within our current baby-skincare framework.

QV Baby Moisturising Cream

Current product status: Available.

Formula verification: Current Australian formula confirmed from the official QV Australia website.

Original Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★☆☆

Current Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★☆

Current ingredients: Water, glycerin, liquid paraffin, petrolatum, cetearyl alcohol, dimethicone, niacinamide, stearic acid, ceteareth-20, squalane, laureth-3, glyceryl stearate, methylparaben and dichlorobenzyl alcohol.

What we like:

  • Fragrance free.
  • Rich, protective moisturising texture.
  • Contains glycerin, niacinamide and squalane.
  • Current Australian formula fully disclosed.

What to consider:

  • Contains mineral oil, petrolatum, dimethicone, ceteareth-20 and methylparaben, which sit outside Hello Charlie's traditional natural ingredient preferences.

Hello Charlie verdict: This is an important example of why our new recommendation system is more nuanced. QV does not closely match Hello Charlie's traditional natural ingredient philosophy, but it is fragrance free and specifically designed for dry and sensitive baby skin. We do not believe those ingredient differences alone justify describing the product negatively or as unsafe.

GAIA Natural Baby Moisturiser

Current product status: Available.

Formula verification: Current complete formula confirmed from the official GAIA Australia website.

Formula change identified: Yes.

Original Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★☆☆

Current Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★★☆

Key current ingredients: Aloe vera, sunflower oil, glycerin, cocoa butter, grapeseed oil, avocado oil, calendula, chamomile, sweet orange peel oil, lavandin oil, lavender oil, Roman chamomile oil, benzyl alcohol, ceteareth-20, sodium benzoate, limonene and linalool.

What changed: The current formula no longer lists sodium hydroxymethylglycinate or phenoxyethanol, which were key reasons for the original lower recommendation.

What we like:

  • Major improvement compared with the original formula reviewed.
  • Full Australian ingredient disclosure.
  • 98% natural-origin ingredients according to the brand.

What to consider:

  • Contains several essential oils.
  • Contains naturally occurring fragrance allergens limonene and linalool.
  • Highly sensitive or eczema-prone babies may do better with a fragrance-free formula.

Hello Charlie verdict: The current formula deserves an upgrade from its historical three-star recommendation, but the essential-oil content keeps it at four stars rather than five in our current framework.

Johnson's Baby Lotion

Current product status: Available.

Formula verification: Current Australian product confirmed from the official Johnson's Australia website.

Original Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★☆☆

Current Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★☆☆

Key formula points: Coconut oil extract, glycerin, glyceryl stearate, cetyl alcohol, dimethicone, phenoxyethanol, polysorbate 20 and the classic Johnson's baby fragrance.

What we like:

  • Widely available.
  • Current Australian product information is accessible.
  • Contains established moisturising ingredients.

What to consider:

  • Contains added fragrance.
  • Includes several ingredients outside Hello Charlie's preferred framework.

Hello Charlie verdict: A familiar mainstream moisturiser that may suit many families, but its added fragrance and lower alignment with our ingredient preferences keep it at three stars.

Mustela Hydra Bébé Body Lotion

Current product status: Available.

Formula verification: Current complete Australian formula confirmed from the official Mustela Australia website.

Original Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★☆☆

Current Hello Charlie recommendation: ★★★☆☆

Key current ingredients: Sunflower seed oil, glycerin, beeswax, jojoba esters, vitamin E, polysorbate 60, avocado extract and added parfum.

What we like:

  • 97% natural-origin ingredients according to Mustela.
  • Excellent current ingredient transparency.
  • Contains sunflower oil and glycerin.
  • Official Australian formula confirmed.

What to consider:

  • Contains added fragrance.
  • Contains polysorbate 60.

Hello Charlie verdict: A transparent and well-established daily lotion, but added fragrance means it aligns less closely with our preferred approach for very sensitive baby skin.

Historical, Discontinued or Currently Unverified Products

We have not deleted these products from the comparison.

Parents may still have old bottles at home, encounter older stock or search online for ingredient information. Keeping the historical analysis can still be useful — as long as we clearly distinguish an old formula from a current one.

Baby Mama Baby Lotion

Original recommendation: ★★★★★

Current recommendation: Not re-rated.

Why: We could not reliably confirm a current official Australian product page or up-to-date formula.

Original formula reviewed: Water, glycerin, cetearyl alcohol, sweet almond oil, rosemary extract, olive leaf extract, glyceryl stearate, cetearyl olivate and sorbitan olivate.

Bondi Wash Baby Lotion

Original recommendation: ★★★★★

Current recommendation: Not re-rated.

Why: Bondi Wash remains an active Australian brand, but the exact old Baby Lotion was not found in the current baby collection during our 2026 review.

Original formula summary: Jojoba oil, avocado oil, emu apple, grapeseed oil, shea butter, sunflower oil and essential oils including blue cypress and petitgrain.

Bubba Organics Baby Lotion

Original recommendation: ★★★★★

Current recommendation: Not re-rated.

Why: We could not find a current official product page strong enough to verify the exact current formula.

Original formula summary: Aloe vera, olive oil, sweet almond oil, calendula, lavender, rosemary, chamomile and botanical extracts.

ChamonixRain Organics Coconut Baby Moisturiser

Original recommendation: ★★★★★

Current recommendation: Not re-rated.

Why: Current retailer listings exist, but a current manufacturer INCI was not independently confirmed.

Original formula summary: Water, organic aloe vera, sunflower oil, cetearyl alcohol, organic coconut oil, cetearyl olivate, sorbitan olivate, jojoba oil, vitamin E and several botanical extracts.

Little Innoscents Organic Moisture Rich Body Lotion

Original recommendation: ★★★★★

Current recommendation: Not re-rated.

Why: Availability information is conflicting. Some retailers still list the product, while others mark it discontinued.

Original formula note: A botanical lotion containing aloe vera, shea butter, sunflower and avocado oils with a ylang ylang scent.

Perfect Potion Beautiful Baby Lotion

Original recommendation: ★★★★★

Current recommendation: Not re-rated.

Why: Retail listings exist, but a current official product page and formula were not independently verified.

Original formula summary: Macadamia oil, apricot kernel oil, jojoba oil, calendula, lavender, mandarin, chamomile and sandalwood oils.

Vatéa Happy Baby Moisturiser

Original recommendation: ★★★★★

Current recommendation: Not re-rated.

Why: Historical and retailer references remain online, but a current official product page was not verified.

Original formula summary: Aloe vera, olive-derived emulsifiers, sunflower oil, shea butter, coconut oil, moringa oil, tamanu oil, chamomile and essential oils.

Wotnot Baby Lotion

Original recommendation: ★★★★★

Current recommendation: Not re-rated.

Why: Wotnot remains an active Australian brand and its current content still references baby lotion, but we did not find a live official product page with a complete current formula during this review.

Original formula summary: Olive oil, shea butter, flaxseed oil, aloe vera, jojoba, chamomile, orange oil and vitamin E.

Burt's Bees Baby Nourishing Lotion — Original

Original recommendation: ★★★★☆

Current recommendation: Not re-rated.

Why: Burt's Bees currently offers several baby lotions internationally, but we could not confirm that the exact Original formula reviewed in the PDF remains the same in the Australian market.

Ecostore Baby Moisturiser

Original recommendation: ★★★★☆

Current recommendation: Not re-rated.

Why: Ecostore remains active in Australia, but the Baby Moisturiser was not found in the current Australian baby range during this audit.

Jurlique Baby's Soothing Moisturizing Cream

Original recommendation: ★★★★☆

Current recommendation: Not re-rated.

Why: The exact baby cream was not found in Jurlique's current official range.

Original formula note: The original product contained multiple plant oils and extracts along with parfum and phenoxyethanol.

Mini Organics Infant Moisturiser

Original recommendation: ★★★★☆

Current recommendation: Not re-rated.

Why: We could not find a reliable current official product page or sufficiently strong current formula source.

Original formula reviewed: Aloe vera leaf juice, olive oil, shea butter, avocado oil, lavender oil and German chamomile oil.

Thankyou Baby Lotion

Original recommendation: ★★★★☆

Current recommendation: Not re-rated.

Why: Thankyou remains active and still sells baby wipes, but the old Baby Lotion was not found in the current official product range.

DermaVeen Extra Gentle Baby Moisturising Cream

Original recommendation: ★★★☆☆

Current recommendation: Not re-rated.

Why: The old product appears to have been superseded by DermaVeen's newer Baby Calmexa range, including current fragrance-free moisturising lotions and creams.

We do not transfer the old three-star rating to a completely different modern formula.

Klorane Baby Moisturizing Lotion 750ml

Original recommendation: ★★★☆☆

Current recommendation: Not re-rated.

Why: The exact old 750ml product has been marked discontinued, while a newer 500ml moisturising lotion is available in some markets.

Because replacement formulas can differ, we do not automatically transfer an old rating to a new product.

The Biggest Formula Changes We Found

Aromababy: ★★★☆☆ to ★★★★★

The old formula contained sodium hydroxymethylglycinate. The current formula found no longer lists it. This is one of the clearest examples of why old ratings should not be permanently attached to a product name.

Aveeno: ★★★☆☆ to ★★★★☆

The current Australian formula is fragrance free and designed for dry and sensitive skin. Although some ingredients do not align closely with Hello Charlie's historical natural ingredient preferences, we believe the old three-star rating was too simplistic when viewed against the current product and current baby skincare guidance.

QV: ★★★☆☆ to ★★★★☆

QV still contains ingredients outside Hello Charlie's traditional natural skincare framework, but it is fragrance free, transparent and designed specifically for dry and sensitive baby skin. Our updated recommendation reflects that nuance.

GAIA: ★★★☆☆ to ★★★★☆

The current formula no longer lists two ingredients that were important reasons for the historical lower recommendation. It still contains essential oils, so we stop at four stars rather than five.

Milk & Co: ★★★★☆ to ★★★☆☆

The current formula we found includes parfum, phenoxyethanol and disodium EDTA. That represents lower alignment with Hello Charlie's current fragrance-conscious criteria.

Which Baby Moisturiser Is Best for Your Baby?

There is no single answer.

For ordinary mild dryness

Start with a simple moisturiser and consider fragrance-free options first.

For very dry skin

A thicker cream can be more effective than a light lotion.

For eczema-prone skin

A fragrance-free, thick moisturiser may be a sensible starting point, but persistent eczema, broken skin, infection or severe symptoms should be discussed with a GP, pharmacist, paediatrician or dermatologist.

For families who prefer natural or organic skincare

Look for clear ingredient lists and meaningful certification rather than relying only on words such as natural, pure or organic.

For very sensitive newborn skin

Consider avoiding added fragrance and essential oils, and remember that even natural botanical or food-derived ingredients can be unsuitable for some babies.

How We Will Keep This Cheat Sheet Updated

This page is designed as a living product comparison rather than a static PDF.

For every future update, we will aim to record:

  • Source type
  • Date formula was checked
  • Whether the formula changed
  • Original Hello Charlie recommendation
  • Current Hello Charlie recommendation

Hello Charlie's recommendation ratings are editorial opinions based on our own ingredient preferences, transparency criteria and product philosophy. A lower rating does not mean that a product is unsafe or unsuitable for every family.

Product formulations can change without notice. Always check the ingredient list on the product packaging or manufacturer's current website before purchasing or using a product.

For persistent dryness, eczema, allergies, broken skin, infection or other medical concerns, seek advice from an appropriate qualified health professional.
