The drainage holes allow water to drain easily, to discourage mould from leftover bathwater. There are no sharp edges and everything clips apart easily and is dishwasher safe.

Disappointed.
Purchased for a one year old. Loved the concept and details of manufacture. But it sinks!! Animal characters float, yet the boat always rolls to upside down. Because of this, can't play by putting animals into the boat. Wish i had of bought a simpler, cheaper toy.
