Why plastic for the lunch boxes?
We asked why the new Love Mae lunchboxes are plastic, instead of the bamboo that they use for their dinner sets. "We didn’t choose bamboo for our lunch boxes as it was almost impossible to get a leak proof seal. When we thought about how the lunch boxes would be handled by their little owners, plastic came out on top when we were considering durability. Plastic will stand the test of time on the concrete each day, as they are thrown aside for play time at the end of each meal. We know that buying a quality product that will last is important to you." When I think about how battered my children's lunchboxes get, that seems pretty sensible to me. Of course, the new lunchboxes are all BPA, PVC, phthalate and lead free. They're made from #5 polypropylene, which is a safe, clean and non leaching plastic, so it's a good choice. Love Mae have also considered the impact of the manufacturing process. Stainless steel and aluminium come from raw materials that have to be mined, which has a huge environmental impact. Polypropylene can be fully recycled, so until Australia approves recycled plastic for food grade use, Love Mae believes that this is the best and most durable choice of materials for lunchboxes.Shop the range here
