You’ve sworn off polystyrene coffee cups, use only stainless steel straws, carry reusable shopping bags everywhere, and made the switch from melamine to bamboo dinnerware for the kids. But are your rubbish bins still contributing to the planet’s plastics problem?

If you’ve been on the lookout for quality compostable bin liners and food waste bags, look no further. We’ve got BioBags - food and doggy waste bags, bin liners, and food storage sacks you won't feel guilty about. They're completely biodegradable and compostable, GMO free, and you can throw them in the compost bin when you're done!

We believe BioBags should replace plastic rubbish bags in your home. Why? Read on. Biobags - compostable, biodegradable rubbish bags

Biobags - compostable, biodegradable rubbish bags

What are BioBags?

BioBag (the company) has been around since 1959. In 1997, the owners shifted the company’s focus to producing compostable and biodegradable products, and in 2003, they phased out polyethylene production completely.

Today, BioBags are used in millions of households to sort food waste and to make recycling easier. These environmentally friendly products are made out of a resin called Mater-Bi, which is derived from non GMO plant starches, vegetable oils, and compostable polymers. The starch source can be waste corn starch, waste potato starch, or other waste starches from renewable crops. Instead of palm oil, BioBag uses oil from crushed cardoon seeds.

BioBags are certified compostable according to European, US, and Australian standards. Specifically, they’re certified “home compostable,” meaning you can add them to your home composting bin, no problem. The innovative technology behind these products allows them to stay strong while you’re using them, but biodegrade completely in compost.

What happens to BioBags when you throw them away?

BioBags break down quickly in a good composting environment. Unlike polyethylene and other materials, they leave no toxic residues and leach no heavy metals. If these bags somehow end up in a body of water, they’ll simply sink to the bottom and compost on the sea/lake bed.

In sealed landfills, where there is no air, water, and sunlight, it's harder for BioBags (and other biodegradable materials, for that matter) to break down. Landfills are indeed a problem, which is why it’s best if you have a home compost bin or send your rubbish to an organics collection system. BioBags make it easier for you to separate your rubbish at the source, so that you avoid sending your food and organic waste to landfills.

What’s in the range?

Food Waste Bags

These breathable bags allow for good ventilation and let the moisture in the rubbish evaporate, meaning less kitchen smells and slower mould growth.

Bin Liners

Designed for food waste, but great for general waste also. Makes rubbish sorting easier and more hygienic. Available in various sizes.

Resealable Food Storage Bags

Perfect for waste free packed lunches - just wash and reuse. Made from GMO free plant starch and can be placed in a Green Organics bin without removing the zip lock.

Doggy Waste Bags

Collect your pet’s poo in these bags made from Mater-Bi. Black to hide contents.

Bag Clams

Goes perfectly with the BioBag liners. Adhesive back tape holds the bags up on the wall (or other surfaces) and keeps them open for easy waste collection. Great for flats, boats, and other small spaces.

MaxAir II Ventilated Bin

A caddy you can keep on the counter for collecting food scraps for the compost. The breathable sides help dry out food waste quickly, reducing odours. Works with the 8 litre BioBag liners.
